Self-taught artist Dr Sushma Mahajan will hold a solo exhibition titled "This Beautiful World," featuring 40 watercolour works at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, from 2nd to 5th August 2024. The show blends captivating visual elements with moments of profound contemplation.
Curated by Dr Alka Pande, the carefully selected collection of works highlights Dr Sushma Mahajan's diverse artistic interests and her ability to capture the essence of the world around her. From depictions of nature to architectural marvels, each canvas is imbued with an enchanting quality and emotional resonance. The exhibition's centerpiece is a mesmerizing series that captures the essence of the natural world with precision and emotion.

Whether it is the majestic elegance of horses, the whimsical charm of a curious rabbit, or the elegance of vintage cars, each painting immerses the viewer in the splendour of the serenity around us. Going beyond the boundaries of the natural world, the exhibition brings out an artistic vision that, among other inspirations, has also been profoundly shaped by diverse architectural marvels that have captured the artist’s imagination. Scenes of Bavarian castles, London pubs, the Adriatic coast, and the vibrant streets of Cuba showcase her fascination with the built environments that shape our world. A surprise element is the showcasing of Dr Sushma Mahajan’s love affair with vintage cars. as mesmerizing compositions showcase her diverse artistic interests. Three captivating portraits of young capture expressions that tug at the heartstrings.
Talking exclusively to artamour, Dr Sushma Mahajan says,
“Jaipur, a city with an illustrious history of royalty and its association with vintage cars, I was constantly surrounded by this fascinating aspect of heritage. Additionally, Prague, my favourite city, elegantly showcases vintage cars in its old squares, offering a visual feast for tourists and me alike. Being a lover of nature, I find immense solace in the soothing company of the natural world. It’s only natural for me to draw inspiration from the landscapes around me and create artworks that celebrate the beauty that surrounds us.”

Dr Sushma Mahajan's art journey began during the Covid lockdown in 2020 with her daughter’s watercolours. What started as an accidental encounter eventually blossomed into a beautiful relationship between her and the watercolour artworks. Through her use of colour, light, and composition, she invites the viewer to step into a world of boundless beauty and wonder, where the natural, the architectural, and the human intersect in a symphony of emotion and expression.
